Lawrence Edward Smith, Sr. Funeral services for Lawrence Smith of Winfield, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Mr. David Thompson officiated with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Lawrence Smith, Jr., Richard Smith, Noah Smith, Austin Moore, Devin Neal, and Steve Siefker. Mr. Smith, 71, died Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2003 at his home near Winfield, MO. Born January 11, 1932 in Lonedell, MO, he was the son of the late Noah Benjamin and Marie Edna Schlenberg Smith. He was united in marriage on July 19, 1952 in St. Louis, MO to Jo Ann Bowlsby. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Korea. He was employed for a number of years as a utility man in the paint shop at General Motors in St. Louis, retiring in 1987. He was a former Chief of Police for Winfield, MO; and a former deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. He also owned and operated Larry's Repair Shop in Winfield. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jo Ann Smith of Winfield; two sons: Lawrence E. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Fort Wayne, IN, and Richard L. Smith of Elsberry, MO; one daughter, Mickie A. Siefker and her husband, Steve, of Moscow Mills, MO; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Bob Smith of Salem, MO; one sister, Virginia Munsell of Salem, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
