Obituary of Alan Staats

Alan Maurice Staats Funeral services for Alan Maurice Staats of Elsberry, Missouri were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Mr. Staats' brother-in-law, George Bauer and other family members lead the service, with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Mickey Crane, Fred Crowe, Jr., Jason Staats, Kyle Staats, Brendan Lindsay, Michael Lindsay, Ryan Lieneke and Joshua Faerber. Mr. Staats, 67, died late Friday evening, July 25, 2003 at his home in Elsberry. Born October 3, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late Earl and Leona Kicker Staats. He was raised in St. Louis where he graduated from Soldan High School and attended Florissant Valley Junior College. He was united in marriage on December 31, 1954 in St. Louis to Dolores Barbara Bauer. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from April 27, 1955 until April 24, 1957. Mr. Staats was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 38 years, and served as the Postmaster in Troy, MO for 16 years, retiring in April 1999. Besides his parents, Earl and Leona Staats, he was preceded in death by one brother who died at birth. Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Dolores Staats of Elsberry; two sons: Earl J. Staats of Elsberry, and Mark Alan Staats and his wife, Lona, also of Elsberry; five daughters: Annis Mary Faerber and her husband, Larry, of Hermann, MO, Karina Alana Lieneke and her husband, Douglas, of Ashland, MO, Susan Carla Adams and her husband, Larry, of Elsberry, Stacey Lynn Pearson and her husband, Bryan, of Elsberry, and Jenna Lee Staats of Elsberry; nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters: Patsy Allen, Gloria Price and her husband, Lyman, and Judy Crowe and her husband, Fred, all of St. Louis; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
