Obituary of O.B. Cox

O.B. Cox, Jr. Funeral services for O.B. Cox, Jr. were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Michael Lockhart, pastor of the Elsberry United Methodist Church, officiated with burial in Millcreek Cemetery near Silex, MO. Serving as pallbearers were Elmer Kientzy, Niles Leverington, Steve Gray, Jess Wilson, Manford Hammonds, and David Davis; honorary pallbearers were Scotty Linderman, Lindell Chamberlain, and Marion Harding. Mr. Cox, 86, died Monday July 21, 2003 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born January 28, 1917 in Silex, MO, he was the son of the late O.B. Cox, Sr. and Lota Viola Luckett. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force from December 23, 1942 until November 16, 1945. He was united in marriage on March 31, 1961 in St. Charles, MO, to Phyllis Lou Chamberlain. Mr. Cox was employed for a number of years as an ironworker, retiring in 1972. He also operated the Phillips 66 station in Elsberry for a time. He was a 50 year member of the Perseverance Lodge #92 AFAM in Louisiana, MO. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local #396 in St. Louis, MO, the VFW Post #9064 and the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry and the Elsberry United Methodist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Marie Ash and Mary Ellen Cox. Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years, Phyllis Cox of Elsberry; two sons: Craig Cox of Elsberry and Dale Wayne Cox of Memphis, TN; and two grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Lucille Cowhick of Springfield, IL, and Elizabeth Greenwell and her husband, Les, of High Hill, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
