Obituary of Jesse Hugh Crenshaw

Jesse Hugh Crenshaw Memorial services for Jesse Hugh Crenshaw of Foley, MO were held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull, pastor of Foley Baptist Church, officiated. Mr. Crenshaw donated his body to medical research at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Crenshaw, 76, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Troy Manor in Troy, MO. Born April 9, 1927 in Foley, MO, he was the son of the late Joel V. and Jessie Trilba McHugh Crenshaw. He was a 1945 graduate of Winfield High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy from April 2, 1945 until July 23, 1946. He was united in marriage on November 27, 1947 in Foley, MO, to Areathia Irene Powelson. Mr. Crenshaw was employed as a hoisting engineer for Kelly Railroad Construction for 20 years, retiring in 1989. He was also a former postmaster of Foley. He was an avid baseball player on the Foley Hard-Road Team. He served on the Winfield School Board for 12 years; was a member of the Hoisting Engineers, Local #513 in St. Louis, MO, the St. Charles Amateur Sports Hall of Fame, the American Legion Post #410 in Foley, and the Foley Baptist Church in Foley. Besides his parents, Joel and Jessie Crenshaw, he was preceded in death by two brothers: John Nelson Crenshaw and J.V. Crenshaw; one sister, Dorothy Randazzo; one son, James W. Crenshaw, who died December 10, 2000; and his beloved wife, Areathia Irene Crenshaw, who died September 27, 2000. Survivors include one son, Joseph H. Crenshaw and his wife, Dora, of Springfield, IL; one daughter, Beth Ann Crenshaw of St. Peters, MO; three grandchildren: Neeli Crenshaw of Kansas City, MO, Trent Crenshaw and his wife, Dana, of O'Fallon, MO, and Tess Crenshaw of Elsberry, MO; one step-grandson, Ryan Schuh of Champaign, IL; and one great-granddaughter, Julia Crenshaw of O'Fallon, MO. He also leaves two sisters: Elna Stone of Elsberry, MO, and Ruth Bell and her husband, Wilbert, of Winfield; one sister-in-law, Joan Suddarth and her husband, Bob, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
