Obituary of Edward Davis

Edward Leo "Sonny" Davis Funeral services for Edward Leo "Sonny" Davis of Foley, MO, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Carter Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Richard Turnbull, pastor of the Foley Baptist Church, officiated with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Danny Reed, Charlie Kaimann, P.J. Montgomery, Bud Strunk, Danny Wallace and Ron Robertson. Mr. Davis, 70, died early Sunday morning, June 8, 2003 at his home near Foley. Born March 16, 1933 in Advance, MO, he was the son of the late Charles Leo and Mamie Wishon Davis. He served his country during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army from February 26, 1951 until February 26, 1954. He was united in marriage on September 19, 1964 in St. Louis, MO to Jacqueine Carol Karnes. He was employed for many years as a driver for the Asphalt-Concrete Corp. of St. Louis, retiring in 1991. He was a life member of the Elsberry VFW, Post #9064, currently serving as Quartermaster. He was also a life member of the Elsberry American Legion Post #226; and the Teamsters Local #682 in St. Louis. Mr. Davis was a member of the Foley Baptist Church. Besides his parents, Charles and Mamie Davis, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Burl Davis, Bill Davis, Bob Davis and Gene Davis; and one sister, Hazel Drum. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 39 years, Jackie Davis of Foley; two sons: Stephen Davis of St. Charles, MO and Kevin Davis of Foley; one daughter, Pam Dillard of Foley; seven grandchildren: Stephanie Harris, Kelly Perdue, Stephen Davis, Kierra Davis, Dane Davis, Nick Dillard and Emilie Dillard; and two great-grandchildren: Hunter Harris and Ashley Perdue. He also leaves one sister, Margaret Cornish of Peoria, IL; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
