Homer Louis Reed Funeral services for Homer Louis Reed of Elsberry, MO were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Corinth Christian Church near Foley, MO. Rev. Scott Groshong, church pastor, and Rev. Kenneth Wells of Troy, MO, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Carl Knox, Randy Norton, Rodney Reed, Leslie LaBanca, Paul LaBanca, and Roger Summers; honorary pallbearers were Tom Reed, Danny Reed, Earnie Potts, and Sid Baker. Mr. Reed, 79, died Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2003 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born October 24, 1923 in Elsberry, he was the son of the late Homer Milton and Nellie Louisa Gray Reed. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from March 19, 1943 until February 9, 1946. He was united in marriage on March 20, 1948 in Foley, MO to Ida Edna Summers. A farmer most of his life, he was also employed as a carpenter for Snow Hill Lumber, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the VFW Post #9064 and the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry, and the Corinth Christian Church near Foley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Jean Knox and Nellie June Norton; and one brother, Charlie Powell Reed. Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Edna Reed of Elsberry; three sons: Louis Robert Reed and his companion, Dorothy, Milton Edward Reed, and Michael Eugene Reed, and his wife, Debbie, all of Elsberry; 10 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers: John Reed and his companion, Marie Blake, of Foley, and George Robert Reed of Elsberry; four sisters: Mary Catherine Graves and her husband, Arlon, of Foley, Rebecca Stone of Elsberry, Rosa Lee Adams and her husband, Alvin Jr., of Eolia, MO, and Jo Ann Ray and her husband, Jerry, of Louisiana, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
