Obituary of Ivan Hammond

Ivan Woodrow Hammond Funeral services for Ivan Woodrow Hammond of Elsberry, MO were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Tom Fortner officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Ronald Vaughn, Ronnie Vaughn, Bret Vaughn, Chad Vaughn, Bob Laird, and Dennis Foster; honorary pallbearers were Woodrow Vaughn and Kenneth Bueneman. Mr. Hammond, 84, died early Sunday morning, May 18, 2003 at his residence in Elsberry. Born February 2, 1919 in Elsberry, he was the son of the late Charles Edmond and Matilda Elizabeth Yandell Hammond. He was a 1937 graduate of Elsberry High School. He was married to Iris Vaughn on July 3, 1940 in Hannibal, MO. Mr. Hammond served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was employed at and became plant manager for Wells-Lamont glove factory in Elsberry. He later was plant manager for Indianapolis Glove factory in Alice, TX, retiring in 1979. He was a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Elsberry. Mr. Hammond was a member of the Lions Club in Oak Grove, LA, Elsberry First Christian Church, American Legion Post 226 of Elsberry and active in the Democratic Party. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Hammond and one sister, Juanita Bunke, and his loving wife of 58 years, Iris Hammond, who died December 7, 1998. Survivors include one son, Terry Wynn Hammond and his wife, Evelyn, of Arlington, TX. He also leaves two grandchildren Terry Wynn Hammond II, and his wife, Dana, of Elsberry, and Kenny Lynn Hammond of Elsberry; and one great-granddaughter, Lakyn LaSha Hammond, of Camden, Ark; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
