Obituary of Lloyd Arnold Palmer

Lloyd Arnold Palmer Funeral services for Lloyd Arnold Palmer of Elsberry, MO were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Elsberry First Baptist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Doug McGlaughlin officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Mr. Palmer, 69, died early Wednesday morning, May 14, 2003 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born December 31, 1933 in Elsberry, he was the son of the late James Guester and Betty Arley Ray Palmer. Following high school, he attended Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal for two years. He then transferred to University of Missouri-Columbia where he received his bachelors' degree. Mr. Palmer served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed for a time at Forrest Keeling Nursery and later served as postmaster for a year. Before his retirement, he was employed as a claims examiner for the Missouri Division of Employment Security. In spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was also an avid and knowledgeable coin collector. He was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church in Elsberry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Palmer. Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Sturgeon and her husband, Bill, of Stroud, OK; and two step-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Anna Joyce "Peggy" LeBlanc and her husband, Harry, of St. Charles, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2003 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
