Obituary of Norman Joseph Pieper

Norman "Red" Joseph Pieper A mass of Christian Burial for Norman "Red" Joseph Pieper of St. Peters, MO, formerly of Old Monroe, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Monroe. Fr. Phil Krahman, church pastor and Msgr. Gregory Schmidt of St. Louis, MO will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Kelly, John Ell, Darrell Pieper, Dean Pieper, Bruce Prinster and John Prinster. Mr. Pieper, 91, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 15, 2011 at Gardenview Care Center in O'Fallon, MO. Born April 5, 1920 in Old Monroe, he was the son of Frank C. and Mary Bals Pieper. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army from December 10, 1941 until being honorably discharged on December 3, 1945. He was stationed in Northern France and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was united in marriage on April 28, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to Mary Ann Prinster. This union was blessed with one daughter, Jeanette. He worked for Burlington and Northern Railroad from 1945 until 1955; then moved to the Winfield area where he farmed for many years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Pieper was a member of Old Monroe American Legion Post #420 and Winfield/Old Monroe VFW Post #5517. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church near Old Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Pieper; two brothers: Clem Pieper and George Pieper; four sisters: Rose Johannesman, Grace Pieper, Eleanor Mensie and Blanche Wilke; and one son-in-law, Dr. Larry Joe Huffman. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Ann Pieper; one daughter, Jeanette Huffman, both of St. Peters and one grandson, Jason Huffman and his wife, Chrissy; two great-grandchildren: Avery and Josie Huffman. He also leaves two brothers: James Pieper and his wife, Joan, of Old Monroe and Leonard Pieper and his wife, Jane, of Troy, MO; one sister, Madeline Kelly of Old Monroe; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield; and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at Immaculate Conception Church.
