Obituary of Charles Edward Smith

Charles Edward Smith A mass of Christian Burial for Charles Edward Smith of Foley, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Raymond Hager, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Timothy Smith, Paul Smith, Kevin Smith, Gary Smith, Terry Smith and Joe Garza. Mr. Smith, 65, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO. Born May 4, 1946 in St. Louis, MO he was the son of Charles and Imelda Pettit Smith. He served his country in the United States Army as a Sergant during the Vietnam War from December 6, 1965 until being honorably discharged December 5 1967. He was united in marriage on September 16, 1989 in Cottleville, MO to Teresa M. Wies. Mr. Smith worked for many years as a produce manager at various IGA stores, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Local #655 United Food and Commercial Workers, VFW Post #9064 in Elsberry and American Legion Post in Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Imelda Smith and one brother, Kerry Smith who died in 1990. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 22 years, Teresa Smith. He also leaves five brothers: Timothy Smith and his wife, Mary Jo, of St. Peters, MO, Paul Smith and his wife, Beth, of St. Charles, MO, Kevin Smith and his wife, Diane, of St. Charles, Gary Smith and his wife, Debby, of Wentzville, MO and Terry Smith and his wife, Mary Beth, of St. Charles; three sisters: Peggy Smith, Laurie Smith and Patti Garza and her husband, Joe, all of O'Fallon MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
