Obituary of Raymond Thomas Peasel

Raymond Thomas Peasel Funeral services for Raymond Thomas Peasel of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Father Raymond Hager, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Rob Peek, Bryan Roach, Tim Bobeen, Ted Bobeen, Tracy Bobeen and Tony Bobeen; and honorary pallbearers will be Billy Collins, Jim Heitman and Mike Hartley. Mr. Peasel, 84, passed away early Monday morning, May 23, 2011 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born December 30, 1926 in Millwood, MO, he was the son of Frank Joseph and Frances Mary Lenk Peasel. He was a 1945 graduate of Troy High School in Troy, MO. He served his country in the U.S. Army from May 30, 1945 until he was honorably discharged on October 23, 1946. He was a mechanic for Turnbull Motors previous to owning and operating his own business, Ray's Standard Service for ten years. In June of 1959, he was appointed as an agent for State Farm Insurance in Elsberry, where he served until his retirement in August, 1995. He also operated the family farm throughout his working career. He served his community as President of the Elsberry Chamber of Commerce; and was a charter member and past-president of the Elsberry Kiwanis Club. He was a 61-year member of the Elsberry American Legion Post #226. Mr. Peasel was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Elsberry Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Peasel; his wife, Jane Cobb Peasel; a brother, Leo Peasel, who died in childhood; two sisters, Beatrice Sutton and Catherine Doherty; his son-in-law, Michael Peek and twin great-grandsons, Luke J. and Landon J. Peek. Survivors include his daughter, Jane Raenet Evans and her husband, Darryl, of Elsberry; two grandchildren, Julie Peek Roach and her husband, Bryan, of Wentzville, MO and Robert T. "Rob" Peek and his wife, Hannah, of Troy, MO; two great-grandsons, Logan T. Peek and Carter T. Peek; two great-granddaughters, Stella G. Roach and Elisabeth M. Peek; two step-grandchildren, Reagan Skaggs and her husband, Kelly, of Elsberry, and Darren Evans and his wife, Tracy, of Los Angeles, CA.; one step-great-granddaughter, Alexa Roach; two step great-grandsons, Addric DeRoy and Michael Skaggs. He also leaves one brother, Richard Peasel of Marthasville, MO; and two sisters, Rita Cook of Chesterfield, MO, and Elvadean Bobeen of Troy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Elsberry Literacy; the J.R.
