Obituary of Charlotte Elizabeth Brooksher

Charlotte Elizabeth Brooksher Funeral services for Charlotte Elizabeth Brooksher of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Elsberry First Baptist Church. Rev. David Rubemeyer, church pastor, and her nephew, Rev. William Maupin, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Geoffrey Brooksher, Gregory Brooksher, Richard Gottlieb, Keith Palmer, Ron Vaughn and Mark Edelen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Meyer, Bob Maupin, Noah Brooksher and Aidan Brooksher. Mrs. Brooksher, 93, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 26, 2011 at the Elsberry Health Care Center. Born December 30, 1917 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of Charles Emmett and Elizabeth Anna Glasford Maupin. She was raised in Eolia, MO and graduated from Eolia High School in 1935. She played on the Eolia girls' basketball team which won the Northeastern Missouri State championship her senior year. She was united in marriage on May 21, 1938 in St. Charles, MO to Forrest Edward Brooksher. This union was blessed with two sons: Dane and Carey. She worked as a seamstress for over 40 years at the Angelica garment factory in Elsberry, retiring in 1982; and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #80 in Silex, MO. She was also a long-time member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church. Mrs. Brooksher's maternal grandfather, Rev. William Noel Maupin, was pastor of New Hope Baptist Church from 1890 - 1892. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Maupin and her mother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Maupin Magruder; two brothers: Allen Maupin and Glen Maupin; one sister, Annabelle Scott; one son, Carey Brooksher, who passed away September 3, 2009; and her beloved husband of almost 65 years, Forrest Edward Brooksher, who died January 10, 2003. Survivors include a son, Dane Brooksher and his wife, Carter, of Elsberry and Basalt, CO; a daughter-in-law, Janette Brooksher of Elsberry; six grandchildren: Leslie Gottlieb and her husband, Richard, Geoffrey Brooksher and his wife, Austin, Gregory Brooksher, Mellissa Cibollas, Lindsey Brooksher, and Erin Lynn Lundveit; and eight great-grandchildren: Degen and Samantha Gottlieb, Noah and Aidan Brooksher, Christopher Cibollas, and Claire, Dana and Evan Lundveit. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
