Obituary of Robert Joseph Schmidt

Robert Joseph Schmidt Funeral services for Robert Joseph Schmidt of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe, MO, will officiate with burial in Winfield Cemetery. Mr. Schmidt, 90, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community in St. Charles, MO. Born February 18, 1920 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Frederick and Dora Ferguson Schmidt. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Louis City High School. He served his country during World War II as a radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from July 16, 1942 until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on October 16, 1945. He was united in marriage on June 29, 1946 in St. Louis to Patricia Ann Henke. This union was blessed with two children: Robert Larry and Sharon. He was employed for many years as a printing pressman at St. Regis Stationary and Envelope in St. Louis, retiring in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Dora Schmidt; two brothers: Frederick Schmidt and August "Gus" Schmidt; and one sister, Mary Olive Broughten. Survivors include his son, Larry Schmidt and his wife, Priscilla, of Maryland Heights, MO; one daughter, Sharon Chumbley and her husband, Lynn, of O'Fallon, MO; and two grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
