Obituary of Samuel Franklin Parsons
Samuel Franklin Parsons
Funeral Services for Samuel Franklin Parsons of Troy, MO, formerly of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Winfield, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Evans, Rodger Evans, Reggie Evans, David Fox, Tony Fox and Daniel Parsons; and honorary pallbearers will be Russell Evans, Steve Griffon and Scott Swihart.
Mr. Parsons, 89, passed away Sunday morning, August 24, 2014 at The Arbors in Troy. Born September 24, 1924 in Winfield, he was the son of Franklin C. and Maggie Lorene Dietlicher Parsons. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from June 12, 1944 until he was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Sam was united in marriage on April 3, 1947 in Troy to Edna Lee Dickmeyer. This union was blessed with four children: Sherry, Susie, Danny and Gail. He was employed for many years as a machinist at McDonnell-Douglas aircraft manufacturing (now Boeing) in St. Louis, MO, retiring June 30, 1987. He was a member of the Machinist Union IAM #751 in St. Louis and the American Legion Post #420 in Old Monroe, MO. Sam was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lorene Parsons; an infant brother; and his son-in-law, Ted Evans.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Edna Parsons of Troy; one son, Danny Parsons and his wife, Paula, of Winfield; three daughters: Sherry L. Diederich and her husband, Raymond, of St. Peters, MO, Susie Evans of Winfield, and Gail Byington and her husband, Albert, Jr., of Moscow Mills, MO; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren. He also leaves several cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
