Obituary of George Robert Reed

George Robert Reed Funeral services for George Robert Reed of Troy, MO, formerly of Winfield, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Richard Pillers, pastor of Elsberry Assembly of God Church, will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Zimmerman, Joey Reed, Brandon Hager, Ryan Hager, Dustin Brandmeyer, Bryan Reed and Jeff Reed. Mr. Reed, 80, passed away early Friday morning, March 12, 2010 at his home in Troy. Born February 22, 1930 in Elsberry, he was the son of Homer Milton and Nellie L. Gray Reed. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, stationed in the Panama Canal and honorably discharged on November 21, 1952. He was united in marriage on August 25, 1951 in Mexico, MO to Patricia Ruth Admire. This union was blessed with seven children: Danny, Paul, Debbie, Linda, Rodney, Glen and Deanna. He worked for several years as a timber buyer. He was a member of the Elsberry VFW Post #9026 and the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents: Homer and Nellie Reed; his beloved wife of almost 30 years, Patricia Reed, who passed away on August 22, 1981; one granddaughter, Angela Reed; two brothers: Homer Louis Reed and Charlie Powell Reed; and three sisters: Jean Knox, June Norton and Becky Stone. Survivors include his companion, Loretta Portwood of Troy; four sons: Danny Reed and his wife, Judy, of Elsberry, Rodney Reed and his wife, Angie, of Elsberry, Paul Reed of Elsberry, and Glen Reed of Foley; three daughters: Debbie Gilmore and her husband, Tom, of Smyrna, TN, Linda Brandmeyer and her husband, Rusty, of St. Charles, MO and Deanna Hager and her husband, Scott, of Eolia, MO; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, John Reed and his companion, Marie, of Foley, MO; three sisters: Cattie Graves of Foley, Rosie Adams and her husband, Alvin Jr., of Eolia and JoAnn Ray and her husband, Jerry, of Bowling Green, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
