Obituary of Ida Frances Hausgen

Funeral Services for Ida Frances (McMahill) Hausgen of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Raymond Doussard, chaplain for Celtic Hospice, will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Hausgen, Andy Hausgen, Glen Bartlett, Dane Gallaway, Josh Hausgen, Bobby Mahurin, Layton Bartlett and Tyler Hausgen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gus Loness, Bob Copeland and Lew Retzer. Mrs. Hausgen, 83, passed away Monday morning, August 18, 2014 at her home near Elsberry. Born September 30, 1930 in Apex, MO in eastern Lincoln County near Elsberry, she was the daughter of Robert Lee and Vernie Frances East McMahill. A lifelong resident of the Elsberry area, she was a 1949 graduate of Elsberry High School. She was united in marriage on September 10, 1949 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry to Edward Charles Hausgen. This union was blessed with three children, Irene Lee, Charles David and Frederick Gerald. Ida worked as a waitress at The Place Restaurant, then at Stella's Lunch Room for several years and later as a cook at the Elsberry schools. She was employed in quality assurance at Monsanto for 23 years, retiring in December, 1990. She was active for a number of years in delivering Meals on Wheels. Ida was a lifelong member of the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vernie McMahill; and her sister, Della Mae Livesay. Survivors include her beloved husband of almost 65 years, Edward Hausgen of Elsberry; two sons: David Hausgen and his wife, Janetta "Jay", of Elsberry, and Gerry Hausgen and his wife, Kristina, of Batavia, OH; one daughter: Irene Hausgen of Elsberry; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
