Obituary of Duel William Greer

Duel William Greer Funeral services for Duel William Greer of Moscow Mills, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Karla Cunningham, pastor of Makin Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate, with burial in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Greer, 83, passed away Friday morning, March 5, 2010 Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born March 24, 1926 in Supply, AR he was the son of Hugh Grant and Rebecca Sue Gould Greer. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from June 29, 1944 until being honorably discharged on May 25, 1947. He was united in marriage on July 10, 1948 to Barbara Lewan Kohrs. This union was blessed with five children: Duel William, Jr., Richard Allen, Diane Beth, Stephen Wayne and Kenneth Dean. He worked for 40 years as an insulator for Hussmans Refrigeration, until retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union Local in St. Louis. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Rebecca Greer; one son, Richard Allen Greer; one daughter, Diane Beth Greer, who died in infancy; three sisters: Jesse Rickert, Flora Knowlton and Effie Drysdale; and three brothers: Ray Greer, Homer Greer and Arthur Greer. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Greer of Moscow Mills; three sons: Duel Greer, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Denver, CO, Stephen Greer and his wife, Linda, of O'Fallon, MO and Kenneth Greer of St. Peters, MO; three grandchildren: James Christian Greer of Italy, Siome Greer of Carbondale, IL and Chad Greer of O'Fallon, MO; and two great-grandchildren: Isadora and Selena Greer of Carbondale, IL. He also leaves one sister Novella Vanetta of St. Charles, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
