Obituary of Bettie Lee Martin

Bettie Lee Martin A memorial service for Bettie Lee Martin of St. Louis, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Mrs. Martin, 84, passed away Monday morning, February 1, 2010 at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. Born April 22, 1925 in Troy, MO, she was the daughter of Louis Henry and Georgia Hamilton Walton, Sr. She was a graduate of Troy High School. She was united in marriage in 1942 to Clarence C. Leverington. This union was blessed with two daughters, Cheryl Ann and Beverly Kay. Clarence passed away in 1957 after 13 years of marriage. She was married again on August 20, 1959 to John Kennerly Martin. This union was blessed with two sons: Randy and Joel. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed crocheting, music, flower gardening and bingo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Georgia Walton, Sr.; her first husband, Clarence Leverington in 1957; one brother, Louis Walton, Jr.; and two sisters: Leota Davis and Mary Adams; and her beloved husband of 35 years, John Martin, who died March 5, 1995. Survivors include two daughters: Cheryl Ann Newnkirk of Los Angeles, CA, and Beverly "Shelby" Kay Leverington of Los Angeles, CA; two sons: Randy Elmer Martin of St. Louis, MO, and Joel Darin Martin of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, several other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO.
