Obituary of Stella Mae Turnbull

Funeral Services for Stella Mae Turnbull of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Tom Schofield, pastor of First Christian Church in Elsberry, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Turnbull, Brandon Turnbull, Brett Turnbull, Bradley Turnbull, Shawn Turnbull and Rob Murphy; honorary pallbearers will be Raymond "Pistol" Momphard and Andrew Turnbull. Mrs. Turnbull, 81, passed away Wednesday morning, August 6, 2014 at her home in Elsberry. Born December 14, 1932 in Pittsfield, IL, she was the daughter of Darrel Roy and Leota Alberta Waggoner Smith. She was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was united in marriage on March 7, 1953 in Pittsfield to Harry Robert Turnbull. This union was blessed with five sons: Robert Charles, Roy Eugene, Ronnie Lee, Randy Lynn and Richard Dale. She owned and operated Stella's Lunch Room near the school in Elsberry from 1968 until 1979. She later worked for several years at Barb's TruBuy in Elsberry. Stella was a faithful volunteer at the Lincoln County Cupboard (food pantry) for the past ten years. She was a member of the Elsberry First Christian Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club in Elsberry; and enjoyed ceramics, puzzles and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrel and Leota Smith; one brother, James C. Smith in 2003; an infant son, Randy Lynn Turnbull; and her beloved husband of 37 years, Harry Turnbull, who died April 23, 1990. Survivors include four sons: Robert C. Turnbull and his wife, Lori, of St. Charles, MO, Roy E. Turnbull and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry, Ronnie L. Turnbull and his wife, Catrina, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Richard D. Turnbull and his companion, Mitzi, of Elsberry; thirteen grandchildren: Robert Turnbull, Jr., Shawn Turnbull, Nicole Turnbull, Dakota Turnbull, David Turnbull, Brandon Turnbull, Brett Turnbull, Bradley Turnbull, David Kristinsson, Robert Kristinsson, Stella Rose Shaffer, Mandy Thompson and Krystal Dreisewerd; and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, Billy Gene Smith and his wife, Mary Ann, of Pleasant Hill, IL; one sister, Bonna June McKee of Martinsburg, IL; a special friend of the family, Betty Momphard of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
