Obituary of Bernadean Lavy Finley

Funeral Services for Bernadean Lavy Finley of Elsberry, MO will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Garven, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Tipton, Denny Rothermich, Rocky Collins, John Bigby, Ronnie Vaughn, Sr. and Doug Miller; and honorary pallbearer will be Calvin Slaughter. Mrs. Finley, 92, was born June 22, 1922 in Darien, MO to Paul and Roxie Lough. She passed away Friday morning, July 18, 2014 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Bernadean was united in marriage on March 15, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Clarence "Joe" Finley. She worked for several years at the Parts Exchange Factory in Elsberry before it closed. She then worked as a cook for the Elsberry School District until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church where she served as the Kindergarten Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #226 and VFW Auxiliary, Post #9064 in Elsberry. Bernadean was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Roxie Lough; three brothers: John Lough who died in infancy, Eugene Lough and Otto Lough; one sister-in-law, Ruthene Lough; and her beloved husband, Joe Finley, who died November 22, 1991. Bernadean is survived by her son, Terry Finley and his wife, Cindy of Troy, MO; her "adopted" daughter, Janet Wipke of Gainesville, FL; three grandchildren: Kristen Finley, Jennifer Knaeble and Emmilee Walton; and three great-grandchildren: Gwen, Evan and Amelia Knaeble. She also leaves one sister-in-law, Edith Lough; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Elsberry United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. Fifth Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
