Obituary of Martha Edell Vaughn

Martha Edell Vaughn Funeral Services for Martha Edell Vaughn of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Elsberry First Baptist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Lawson, of Warrensburg, MO, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Vaughn, Steven Vaughn, Ronnie Vaughn, Bill Wehde, Jake Wehde, and Larry Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Vaughn, Terry Hammond, Homer Riffle, Jr., Dale Riffle, J.C. Bufford, Elmo Lawson, Mike Suddarth, and Harry Lawson. Mrs. Vaughn, 92, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born December 4, 1916 in Lincoln County, MO she was the daughter of James Quincy and Clara DeeEtta Palmer Suddarth. She was united in marriage on December 26, 1935 in Bowling Green, MO to Woodrow Vaughn. This union was blessed with two sons: James and Ronald. She worked for several years as a seamstress at Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Elsberry. She later obtained her cosmetology license and worked as a beautician at the Elsberry Beauty Shop. Upon her retirement in the late 1970's she refined her artistic skills by painting and sold many pieces of art. Mrs. Vaughn displayed her paintings at many exhibits and was a member of the Raintree Arts Council. She was also a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Suddarth; one son, James Aaron Vaughn; two brothers: John Thomas Suddarth and Norman Lynn "Buck" Suddarth; two sisters: Hazel Dell Lawson and Gertrude Riffle; and her beloved husband of 70 years, Woodrow Vaughn, who died January 12, 2006. Survivors include one son, Ronald Keith Vaughn, Sr. and his wife, Arlene, of Elsberry; and one daughter-in-law; Sandra Burkemper of Winfield, MO. She also leaves five grandchildren: Brett Vaughn and his wife, Shanna, of Moscow Mills, MO, Steven Vaughn of Springfield, MO, Chad Vaughn of Seattle, WA, Ronnie Vaughn and his wife, Michelle, of Elsberry, and Cheryl Wehde and her husband, Bill, Jr. of St. Paul, MO; eight great-grandchildren: Amanda and Jake Wehde, Miranda, Ethan, Aaron, Julia, Sophia and Jesse Vaughn; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
