Obituary of Madeline W. Heitman

Madeline W. Heitman A Mass of Christian Burial for Madeline W. Heitman of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe, MO. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt and Father James Grady will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Surrounded by her family, Mrs. Heitman, 83, passed away Saturday evening, May 30, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, MO. Born April 5, 1926 in Old Monroe, she was the daughter of Paul and Caroline Wehde Burkemper. She was united in marriage on June 5, 1943 in Old Monroe to Cecil Joseph Heitman. This union was blessed with nine children: Carolyn Marie, James Paul, Jerome Lawrence, Jeanne Marie, Margaret Ann, Donald John, Richard Joseph, Michael Timothy and Lori Ann. A lifelong resident of eastern Lincoln County, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Quilters in Elsberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Caroline Burkemper; one sister, Irene Henke; one son, Don Heitman in 1997; three grandchildren: Joseph Vehige, Julie Heitman and Jeffrey Wood; and her beloved husband of almost 42 years, Cecil Heitman, who died February 4, 1985. Survivors include four sons: Jim Heitman and his wife, Redonda, of Elsberry, Jerry Heitman and his wife, Mary, of Foley, MO, Rick Heitman of Elsberry, and Tim Heitman and his wife Val, of Elsberry; four daughters: Carolyn Vehige and her husband, Rich, of St. Louis, MO, Jeanne Groner and her husband, Bob, of Hermann, MO, Marge Wood and her husband, Mike, of Elsberry, and Lori Vanzant and her husband, Tony, of Troy, MO; 41 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers: Paul Burkemper and his wife, Margie of Old Monroe, and Kenny Burkemper and his wife, June, of Troy; one sister: Lois Schipper and her husband, Clarence, of Lake Saint Louis; one brother-in-law, Albert Heitman and his wife, Ruth, of St. Paul, MO; two sisters-in-law: Eleanor Hoelting of Elsberry, and Rose Ann Heitman of Old Monroe; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. A Prayer Service will be held during the visitation at the funeral home.
