Obituary of Robert Gene Waggoner

Robert Gene Waggoner Funeral services for Robert Gene Waggoner of Annada, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Conrad Cheatham, pastor of the Elsberry ARPresbyterian Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Waggoner, Chance Brooks, James Hennecke, Nick Sitton, Drew Sitton, and Chris Hennecke; honorary pallbearers will be Earl Barban, Pete Bloom, Ed Couch, Paul Wiget and Charles Waggoner. Mr. Waggoner, 76, died Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2009 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born May 16, 1932 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Bower Douglas and Sue Alice McHugh Waggoner. Raised in eastern Lincoln County, he was a 1950 graduate of Elsberry High School. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Piedmont and the USS Sterlet. He served from August 4, 1950 until being honorably discharged June 3, 1954. He was united in marriage on February 6, 1960 in Wright City, MO to Iona Grace Hatfield. Mr. Waggoner was employed for thirty years as an inspector in the aircraft manufacturing industry for McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, MO, retiring in 1992. After 32 years of marriage, Iona preceded him in death on May 26, 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry; and was a former member of the Elsberry Lions Club. Mr. Waggoner was again united in marriage on December 28, 1996 in Winfield, MO to Martha L. Jones. He was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bower and Sue Waggoner; two brothers: John and Glenn Waggoner; his first wife, Iona Waggoner; and one step-grandchild, Casey Hennecke. Survivors include his beloved wife of twelve years, Martha Waggoner of Annada; one step-son, Robert Hennecke and his wife, Tina, of Scott City, MO; two step-daughters: Jaci Sitton and her husband, Kevin, of Winfield, and Tamy Brooks of Troy, MO; thirteen step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, William "Bill" Waggoner and his wife, Eddie Ann, of Elsberry; one sister, Marjorie Bowers of Littleton, CO; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
