Obituary of Edna Marie Slaughter

Edna Marie Slaughter Funeral services for Edna Marie Slaughter of Milan, TN, formerly of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Eloise Slaughter of Whiteside, MO, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Slaughter, Billy Slaughter, Marshall Suddarth, Sr., Alan Turner, Don Marty and Raymond Momphard; and honorary pallbearers, Cara Marty, Myra Marty, Milford Steel and LeRoy Suddarth. Mrs. Slaughter, 71, died early Monday morning, April 27, 2009 at her home in Milan, TN. Born September 5, 1937 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Henry and Lucy Belle Slaughter Laird. She was united in marriage on August 31, 1957 in Elsberry to Cecil Hugh Slaughter. This union was blessed with one son, Charles Hugh. Mrs. Slaughter worked for several years at the Parts Exchange in Elsberry. After moving to Milan, she worked at S&L Apparel for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lucy Laird; and three brothers: Cecil, Melvin and Herman Laird. Survivors include her beloved husband of almost 52 years, Cecil Slaughter of Milan, TN; one son, Charles H. Slaughter and his wife, Vicky, of Dyer, TN; and one grandson, Billy Slaughter and his wife, Kerri, also of Dyer, TN. She also leaves two brothers: Robert "Bob" Laird and his wife, Maria, of Elsberry, and Henry "Hank" Laird of his wife, Linda, of Doniphan, MO; two sisters: Ruth Copher of Herrin, IL, and Betty Jean Freeland and her husband, Jack, of Park Hills, MO; one sister-in-law: Betty Laird of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
