Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Ratcliff

Ruth Ratcliff Funeral services for Ruth Ratcliff of Foley, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Scott Groshong, pastor of the Corinth Christian Church, will officiate with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Victor Sleet, David Sleet, Robbie Davis, Tyrone Polk, Marvin McEwen and Bill McEwen. Mrs. Ratcliff, 76, died Saturday afternoon, April 18, 2009 at her home near Foley. Born October 3, 1932 in Giles County, VA, she was the daughter of Frank Marion and Amanda Elizabeth Sauder Songer. She was united in marriage on March 15, 1952 in Giles County, VA to Arthur Lee Ratcliff. This union was blessed with five children: Carolyn, Bonnie, Sharon, Donna and Buddy. She was employed for a number of years as the greenhouse manager for Jan's Plants in O'Fallon, MO. She was a member of the Corinth Christian Church near Foley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Amanda Songer; five brothers: Frank, Jr., Andrew, John, Bobby and Harry Songer; two sisters: Magdelene Sarver and Maude K. Lytton; one grandson, Timothy Sliger in 2005; and her husband, Arthur Ratcliff who died August 30, 1986. Survivors include four daughters: Carolyn Davis of Foley, Bonnie Sliger of Winfield, Sharon Smith of Foley and Donna Akers of Christianburg, VA; one son, Buddy Ratcliff of Winfield; fourteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. She also leaves three sisters: Anna Mae King of Tennessee, Mildred Williams of Blacksburg, VA, and Alma Conoyer of Wentzville, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
