Obituary of Delbert J. Burkemper

Delbert J. "Duck" Burkemper A Mass of Christian Burial for Delbert Joseph "Duck" Burkemper of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Mr. Burkemper, 71, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born December 2, 1937 near Old Monroe, he was the son of Albert and Theresa Wehde Burkemper. He was a 1955 graduate of Assumption High School in O'Fallon, MO. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage on May 14, 1960 in Old Monroe to Patsy Ruth Davis. This union was blessed with five children, Bruce, Roger, Angie, Brad and Rodney. He owned and operated a dairy farm near Old Monroe for most of his life. He was a member of the Mid Am Young Dairy Cooperative. Active in his community, Mr. Burkemper was a former member of the Old Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Old Monroe. He was a member and co-owner of the Flying "D"s Duck Club near Old Monroe. In his early years, he played hard-road baseball. He was a former Khourey League coach, and was a member of the Old Monroe Community Ballpark Board. He was inducted into the St. Charles County Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Mr. Burkemper was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Theresa Burkemper; three brothers: Jerome Burkemper, James Burkemper and Alvin Burkemper; and one sister, Mary Jane Burkemper. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 49 years, Patsy Burkemper of Old Monroe; four sons: Bruce Burkemper and his wife, Lori, of Old Monroe, Roger Burkemper and his wife, Kristen, of Old Monroe, Brad Burkemper and his wife, Lorie, of Weldon Springs, MO, and Rodney Burkemper and his wife, Michelle, of Old Monroe; one daughter, Angie Burkemper and her companion, Joseph Chavarin, of Anthem, AZ; and ten grandchildren: Nicole, Janie, Evan, Katie, Rachael, Bailey, Connor, Breana, Avery and Owen Burkemper. He also leaves four sisters: Genevieve Bauer and her husband, Sylvester, of St. Peters, MO, Alberta Brown of Old Monroe, Eileen Maher and her husband, Oz, of O'Fallon, MO, and Mary Lou Creech and her husband, Vincel, of St. Charles, MO; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Burkemper of St. Charles and Dorothy Burkemper of Old Monroe; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
