Obituary of Lowell E. Capps

Lowell E. "Bud" Capps Funeral services for Lowell Eugene "Bud" Capps of Paynesville, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Ramsey Creek Baptist Church near Paynesville. Rev. Lee Hartley, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Watts, Carl Brown, Bill Segress, Anthoney Capps, Dennis Capps and Benny Hall; honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Segress, Tommy Capps, Gene Galloway and Jason Capps. Mr. Capps, 78, died early Saturday morning, March 7, 2009 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born March 3, 1931 near Apex in eastern Lincoln County, MO, he was the son of Russell Lowell "Pete" and Octa Brainerd Capps. A life-long resident of Lincoln and southern Pike County, he was a 1948 graduate of Elsberry High School. Stationed in Germany, he served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from February 1952 until he was honorably discharged as a corporal in February 1955. He was united in marriage on March 16, 1957 at the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry to Rosemary Sue Segress. This union was blessed with three sons, Michael Eugene, Dennis Wayne and William Lowell. A farmer most of his life, he also worked as a Security Guard at the Holcim (formerly Holnam) cement manufacturing plant near Clarksville, MO, retiring in March 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Clarksville. Mr. Capps was a member of the Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Octa Capps; one infant son, Lowell Capps, Jr.; and one brother, Thomas Capps. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Rosemary Capps of Paynesville; three sons: Michael Capps and his wife, Kathy, of Eolia, MO, Dennis Capps and his wife, Yvonne, of Eolia, and Bill Capps and his wife, Carie, of Louisiana, MO; six grandchildren: Micah Brown and her husband, Carl, Jason Capps and his wife, Kelly, Anthoney Capps, Alishia Capps, Gretchen Capps and Ryan Capps; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Rosina Coleman of Elsberry, MO; one sister-in-law, Lois Capps of Eureka, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
