Obituary of Leighton Edwin Lester

Leighton Edwin "Eddie" Lester Funeral services for Leighton Edwin "Eddie" Lester of Troy, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Carla Fletcher, pastor of Hawk Point Community Church, will officiate with burial in Thornhill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Wippler, Paul Dudley, Brian Hopkins, Kirby Orth, David Parker, Bruce Hopkins, Jeffrey Twellman, Bill Wommack, Jr., and Matt Howard. Mr. Lester, 76, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at St. Joseph's Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born June 1, 1932 in Troy, he was the son of Efton Lavoid and Annie Frances Humphrey Lester. He was a 1950 graduate of Troy High School. He served his country in the Korean Conflict from November 13, 1952 until being honorably discharged on July 23, 1954. He was united in marriage on August 7, 1952 in Pocahontas, AR to Helen Marie Pollien. This union was blessed with four children: Jeanette, Cheryl, Randy, and Robert. Mr. Lester was a lifelong farmer and a former director for Boatman's Bank. He was a member of the Troy Lodge #34 A.F. & A.M., the Lincoln County Fair Board, and the Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the New Galilee Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Efton and Annie Lester. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Helen Lester of Troy; two sons: Randy Lester and his special friend, Angie Kientzy, and Robert Lester all of Troy; two daughters: Jeanette Van Beek and her husband, George, of Troy, and Cheryl Twellman and her husband, Mark, of Silex, MO; and four grandchildren: Jenna Van Beek and her fianc�, Dustin Fry, of Kansas City, MO, and Christy, Jeffrey, and Caitlyn Twellman all of Silex. He also leaves one sister, Glenda Barley Fitzgerald and her husband, Bruce, of Troy; three nephews: Bill Wommack, Jr., Chad Fitzgerald, and Ryan Fitzgerald; three nieces: Leah Wommack-Askey, Amanda Drew, and Erin Fitzgerald; several other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2009 with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
