Obituary of Vernon Gregory Sharpe

Vernon Gregory Sharpe Funeral services for Vernon Gregory Sharpe of Winfield, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Richard Turnbull, of Winfield, will officiate with burial in Winfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Smith, Terry Forrester, Darin Crouch, Robin Crouch, Dale Parsons, and David Cross. Mr. Sharpe, 85, died early Saturday morning, February 14, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born April 5, 1923 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Roy and Della Frances Stonebraker Sharpe. He was a 1942 graduate of Winfield High School. He was united in marriage on August 22, 1942 in St. Charles, MO to Juanita Leah Kimberly. This union was blessed with three children: Bernice Ann. Doris Lee, and Jerry David. Mr. Sharpe worked for several years as a heat treater for McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1982. He also worked as a Star Route Mail Carrier from Elsberry to Hamburg, IL. He was a charter member and past president of the Lions Club. He served as a former Councilman and Mayor for the city of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Della Sharpe; two brothers: Vincent "Vinnie" Sharpe and Robert "Bob" Sharpe; one sister, Heloise Crenshaw; and his beloved wife of 41 years, Juanita Sharpe, who died May 22, 1984. Survivors include one son, Jerry Sharpe of Winfield; two daughters: Bernice "Buzzie" Cross and her husband, David, of Winfield, and Doris "Cuttie" Parsons and her husband, Dale, of Foley, MO; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Gary Sharpe of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
