Obituary of Mary E. Drummond

Mary E. "Betty" Drummond Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Drummond of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Burial will be in Laddonia City Cemetery in Laddonia, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Calvin, Neal Tiek, Jon Moore, Ryan Drummond, Chris Switzer, and Sean Drummond. Mrs. Drummond, 80, died Friday morning, February 13, 2009 at the Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab Center in Troy, MO. Born December 16, 1928 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of Carl and Grace Rowena Corey Appel. She was a 1946 graduate of Ritenour High School in Overland, MO, and attended Southwest Baptist College for one year. She was united in marriage on August 5, 1947 in St. Louis to Norman Leroy Drummond. This union was blessed with three children: Steve, Larry, and Duane. She worked for several years as a head cook for the Ladue School District, retiring in 1990. Mrs. Drummond was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church and served as the organist for many years. She was a member of the Berkley Lions Club. Mrs. Drummond enjoyed teaching ceramics and was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Appel; one sister, Luella Woolridge; and her beloved husband of 50 years, Norman Drummond, who died January 16, 1997. Survivors include three sons: Steve Drummond and his wife, Laura, of Elsberry, Larry Drummond of Laddonia, and Duane Drummond and his wife, Gail, of Pekin, IL; a former daughter-in-law and dear friend, Linda Drummond of St. Peters, MO; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Dorothy Mestemacher and her husband, Bob, of Culver City, CA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
