Obituary of Doyle Wayman Masters

Funeral services for Doyle Wayman Masters of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Kurt Greenwood, Chaplain of Heartland Hospice, will officiate with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny DeLong, Larry Long, Mike Burner, Mike Winters, Drew Prater and Robert W. Dees. Mr. Masters, 85, passed away Monday afternoon, January 26, 2009 at his home in Winfield. Born July 19, 1923 in Leachville, AR, he was the son of James Roy and Ettie Ezelyn Broughton Masters. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army from March 4, 1943 until being honorably discharged January 8, 1946. He was united in marriage on October 9, 1948 in Piggott, AR to Jennie V. Lott. This union was blessed with one daughter, Jean Sue. He worked for several years at General Motors, retiring in 1981. The Masters lived in Ferguson, MO for 25 years before moving to the Winfield area to be near their daughter. Mr. Masters was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ettie Masters; one brother, George Masters; three sisters: Dovie Masters, Rennie Masters, and one infant; and his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Jennie V. Masters, who died May 23, 2008. Survivors include one daughter, Jean Sue Masters and her fianc�, Frank Finney, of Winfield; two grandchildren: Robert W. Dees and his wife, Tina, of O'Fallon, MO, and Michelle Prater and her husband, Drew, of St. Peters, MO; and two great-grandchildren: Samuel Doyle Dees and Josephine Lucille Dees. He also leaves one brother, Wanie Masters and his wife, Reba, of Bunker, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
