Obituary of Goldie Ruth Norvel

Funeral services for Goldie Ruth Norvel of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Bob Norvel, pastor of Annada Community Christian Church, and Rev. John Zellmer, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Duane Spies, Neal Spies, Dewayne Whiteside, Darrell Whiteside, John Lagemann, and Denny Watts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Corey Norvel and Robert Norvel. Mrs. Norvel, 94, died Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2009 at the Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry. Born December 15, 1914 in Center, MO, she was the daughter of Vernon William and Edith "Ethel" Allie Luckett Holcomb. She was united in marriage on November 25, 1936 in Troy, MO to William Everett Norvel. This union was blessed with four children: James Leon, William Robert, John Richard, and Linda Sue. Mrs. Norvel was a homemaker and a member of the Annada Community Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Ethel Holcomb; two brothers: Russell Holcomb and James Holcomb; one sister, Helen Simmons; one son, James Leon Norvel; and her beloved husband of 44 years, William Norvel, who died June 16, 1981. Survivors include two sons: Rev. Bob Norvel and his wife, Donna, of Annada, MO, and John Norvel and his wife, Barbara, of Elsberry; one daughter, Linda Spies and her husband, Neal, of Augusta, KS; twelve grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Pearl Lagemann and her husband, John, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
