Obituary of George Perry Stonebraker

Funeral Services for George Perry Stonebraker of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church. Rev. Rev. Paul Garven, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Stonebraker, Allen Stonebraker, Pat Stonebraker, Joshua Stonebraker, Jacob Stonebraker and Will Stonebraker. Perry passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 24, 2014 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. He had reached the age of 80 years, 10 months and 19 days. Born, August 5, 1933 in Foley, MO, he was the son of George W. and Lucile Briscoe Stonebraker. A 1951 graduate of Elsberry High School, he served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean conflict. Perry was united in marriage on May 23, 1953 in Elsberry to Peggy Jean Dixon. This union was blessed with three sons: Stan, Allen and Pat. He received his barber's license from Moller Barber College and served the community for 19 years in that capacity. He became a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Missouri, Michigan and Kansas. Perry served as the Administrator of the Elsberry Health Care Center for 18 years. He was a licensed Lay-Speaker in the United Methodist Church, serving the Clarksville United Methodist Church for over 7 years. Perry served on the Elsberry R-2 Board of Education and the Elsberry Health Care Center Board. He was a member of the Elsberry Chamber of Commerce and the Elsberry American Legion Post #226. Perry was a member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucile Stonebraker; and his brother, Harry E. Stonebraker. Perry is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Peggy Stonebraker of Elsberry; three sons: Stan Stonebraker of O'Fallon, MO, Allen Stonebraker and his wife, Joann, of Elsberry and Pat Stonebraker and his wife, Kellie, also of Elsberry; five grandchildren: Josh Stonebraker of Elsberry, Trisha Volkart and her husband, David, of Russellville, MO, Lacey J. Scott and her husband, Tyler, of O'Fallon, Jacob Stonebraker of Elsberry and Will Stonebraker, also of Elsberry; and three great-granddaughters: Madison L. Black, Jayla R. Volkart and Ella M. Volkart, all of Russellville. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Ruby Stonebraker of Winfield, MO; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Perry will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the staff of the Elsberry Health Care Center. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
