Obituary of Robert Paul Blackmore

Funeral services for Robert Paul Blackmore, Jr. of Spring Park, MN, formerly of Bradenton, FL, and St. Louis, MO. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Old Monroe, MO. Rev. Michael Kasevich, church pastor, will officiate with burial in St. Paul UCC Cemetery in Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Don Bothe, Jerry Gifford, Robert Ostmann, Dave Monahan, Scott Palmer, and Ryan Palmer. Mr. Blackmore, 89, died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at his home on Lake Minnetonka in Spring Park, MN. Born February 13, 1919 in Elsberry, MO, he was the son of Robert Paul and Nelle Evelyn Palmer Blackmore, Sr. He was a 1937 graduate of Elsberry High School in Elsberry, MO. On November 14, 1940 he enlisted in the United States Army while attending Washington University. He was united in marriage on October 10, 1942 in Elsberry to Mildred "Millie" Marie Schroer. After 33 years in the Army and the Army Reserves, he retired in 1972 as a Lieutenant Colonel, receiving two bronze stars during his service in World War II. He was a Life member of VFW Post 10350 in Lake St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nelle Blackmore, Sr.; one son, John Paul Blackmore, who died as an infant; and his beloved wife of 64 years, Millie Blackmore, who died May 5, 2007. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Palmer and her husband, Ron, of Tonka Bay, MN; and two grandsons: Ryan Palmer and his wife, Kari, of San Francisco, CA, and Scott Palmer of Chanhassen, MN; several other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, Saturday, December 27 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Old Monroe, MO.
