Obituary of Homer Arnold Riffle

Funeral Services for Homer Arnold Riffle of Bowling Green, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of Whiteside Holiness Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Larson, Dana Foiles, Sammy Bowen, Eric Smith, Shawn Smith and Clinton Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clif Bowen, Aaron Bowen, Duane Bowen, Daniel Bowen, Zachary Bowen, Donovan Bowen, Tricia Bowen, Yasmine Bowen and Michael Bowen. Mr. Riffle, 92, passed away Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green. Born June 12, 1922 in Elsberry, he was the son of Allie Thurman and Ethyl Davis Damron Riffle. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, Battle of the Bulge and Normandy, where he was injured. Homer was united in marriage on February 21, 1946 in Elsberry to Eunice Gertrude Suddarth. This union was blessed with seven children: J.C., Homer Jr., Dale, Joann, Linda, Bonnie and Marilyn. He worked as a farmer. He was a member of Olney Baptist Church. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Ethyl Riffle; four brothers: Rodney, Delmar, John and Steven Riffle; two sisters, Patricia Stewart and Faye Cox; and his beloved wife of 63 years, Eunice Riffle, who died March 26, 2009. Survivors include three sons: J.C. Bufford and his wife, Debbie, of Curryville, MO, Homer Riffle, Jr. and his wife, Dona, of Bowling Green and Dale Riffle, also of Bowling Green; four daughters: Joann Bowen and her husband, LeRoy, of Frankford, MO, Linda Smith and her husband, Raymond, of Bowling Green, Bonnie Wallace and her husband, Robert "Bob", of Frankford and Marilyn "Kay" Crenshaw of Bowling Green; and twenty-seven grandchildren. He also leaves fifty-one great-grandchildren and numerous great, great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
