Obituary of Rosemary Elizabeth Shaffer

Rosemary Elizabeth Shaffer Funeral services for Rosemary Elizabeth Shaffer of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. John Zellmer, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be __________________________________________ Mrs. Shaffer, 89, died Monday morning, September 29, 2008 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born June 28, 1919 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of James Otto and Mabel Lilley Millard Baxter. She was united in marriage on June 28, 1941 in St. Louis to William Lester Shaffer. This union was blessed with four children: Raymond Lester, George James, William Earl and Darlene Elizabeth. Mrs. Shaffer was a long-time member of the New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. She was a 77-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Elsberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mabel Baxter; one brother, Raymond Baxter; two sons: George Shaffer in 1994 and William Shaffer in 1991; and her beloved husband of almost 42 years, Les Shaffer who died August 23, 1983. Survivors include one son, Raymond and his wife, Judy, of Elsberry; one daughter, Darlene Terrell and her husband, Mark, of Elsberry; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. An American Legion Auxiliary Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening during the visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Legion Auxiliary or the New Hope Building Fund in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
