Obituary of Woodrow Wilson Cox

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson Cox of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of the Whiteside Holiness Church, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Riffle, Gilbert Riffle, Daryl Barber, Dale Riffle, Lindell Riffle, Brian Lickteig and Dennis Watkins. Mr. Cox, 88, died Sunday afternoon, September 14, 2008 at his home near Elsberry. Born January 15, 1920 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Jefferson Davis and Onie May Briscoe Cox. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged on November 14, 1945. He was united in marriage on March 26, 1949 in Foley to Fae Anna Riffle. He was employed for several years as a commercial carpenter, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Carpenters Local #1875 in Winfield, MO. Mr. Cox was also a member of the New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Onie Cox; one brother J.D. Cox; and two sisters: Marjorie Medvick and Beatrice Smith. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Fae Cox of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
