Obituary of John L. Holley

A Mass of Christian Burial for John L. Holley, Jr. of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Monroe. Msgr. Gregory Schmidt, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Shaun Holley, Patrick Holley, Ryan Holley, Kevin Holley, John Holecek and Steve Williamson. Mr. Holley, 86, passed away early Monday morning, February 18, 2008 at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy, MO. Born April 1, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of John L. and Rose Kern Holley, Sr. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was united in marriage on July 11, 1942 in St. Louis to Margaret "Peggy" Louise McCarthy. This union was blessed with five children: John, Margie, Michael, Patrick and Colleen. He worked for 39 years as a bus driver for Bi-State in St. Louis, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in old Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Holley, Sr.; two brothers: Lloyd Holley and James Holley; and one son-in-law, John Holecek. Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Peggy Holley of Old Monroe; three sons: John L. Holley III and his wife, Mary Ann, of Wentzville, MO, Michael Holley and his wife, Karen, of Mississippi, and Patrick Holley and his wife, Sue, of Des Peres, MO; two daughters: Margie Holecek of Old Monroe, and Colleen Hupp and her husband, Jerry, also of Old Monroe; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Rosemary Taylor of Anchorage, AK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
