Obituary of Elfrieda Smith

Funeral services for Elfrieda Elizabeth Smith of O'Fallon, MO, formerly of Winfield, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Makin Memorial United Methodist Church in Winfield. Rev. Linda Zych, church pastor, will officiate with burial in St. Paul UCC Cemetery near Old Monroe, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Clintsman, Ron DeGrendele, Michael Birkhead, Billy Dwiggins, Gene Burkhardt and Clint Betchel. Mrs. Smith, 92, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 6, 2008 at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon. Born May 2, 1915 in Winfield, she was the daughter of George W. and Susie E. Filsinger Arnhold. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1933. She was united in marriage in September of 1939 in Foley, MO to Eldridge Hadley Smith. This union was blessed with two children: Harold and Barbara. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of the Makin Memorial United Methodist Church in Winfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Susie Arnhold; one sister, Anita Arnhold; one son, Harold Smith; and her beloved husband of 62 years, Eldridge Smith who died on January 18, 2002. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Burkhardt and her husband, Gene, of Winfield; five grandchildren: Gail DeGrendele and her husband, Ron, of O'Fallon, Perry Smith of Atlanta, GA, Debbie Clintsman of Winfield, Hope Floyd of Winfield, and Tonya Roman and her husband, Tony, of Warrenton, MO; five great-grandchildren: Billy Dwiggins, Brittany Dwiggins, Kandis Smith, Kory Smith and Sydney Roman; one great, great-grandchild, Blake Dwiggins. She also leaves one cousin, Vera Arnhold of Winfield; several other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
