Obituary of Jack V. Menefee

Jack Vail Menefee Funeral services for Jack Vail Menefee of Troy, MO, formerly of St. Louis County, MO, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Cart-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of the Winfield Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Menefee, Ryan Menefee, Justin Fowler, Joseph Norton, and Clifford Brown. Mr. Menefee, 85, died Wednesday evening, August 8, 2007 at his home in Troy. Born December 30, 1921 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Flournoy and Hazel Vail Menefee. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force from February 3, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on September 9, 1945. He flew in a B-25 Bomber as a front turret gunner. He was awarded the Air Medal, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was united in marriage on September 22, 1942 in Orange County, Florida to Ethel Katrina Slazak. This union was blessed with two children, Dean Alan and Jacqueline. He was employed for a number of years as a Credit Manager in St. Louis. He was later a Counselor at a Consumer Credit Counseling Service, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #981 in Arlington, IL. He made his home in St. Louis County for over 40 years before moving to Troy to be near his son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flournoy and Hazel Menefee; one brother, Flournoy "Mike" Menefee; two sisters: Donna Hoppie and Myra Manahan; and his beloved wife of 50 years, Ethel Menefee, who died in 1992. Survivors include one son, Dean Alan Menefee and his wife, Leann, of Winfield, MO; one daughter, Jacqueline Green of Valles Mines, MO; and four grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Ruth Keating and her husband Charles of Wilmington, DE, and Roberta Hokanson and her husband Mark of Eagle River, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
