Obituary of Mildred "Micki" Leona Lockwood

A Celebration of Life for Mildred “Micki” Leona Lockwood of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Elsberry First Christian Church, 101 North Sixth Street, with a fellowship lunch to follow. The church pastor, Rev. Kris Hagemeier, will officiate. Micki, 81, passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO. She was born March 13, 1943 in St. Louis, MO to Philip and Minnie Kuester Rather. Micki grew up on a farm in Florissant, MO, one of four hard working sisters. She was a 1959 graduate of Hazelwood High School. In 1991 Micki earned a Certificate of Specialization in Gerontology from Forest Park Community College. She later earned an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences at Florissant Valley Community College. Micki was united in marriage on May 18, 1963 in Florissant, MO to Ronald Henry Lockwood. Micki worked as a secretary for Emerson Electric, and later as an administrative secretary of Staff Development at McDonnel Douglas Aircraft Manufacturing. She also worked at Eldercare and was a regular substitute teacher for the Lincoln County R-II School District in Elsberry. Micki chose to raise her children in Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church in Florissant, where she was a dedicated member for 30+ years. After moving, Micki became an active member of the Elsberry First Christian Church. As a mother, grandmother, aunt, relative and friend, Micki held a very special place in many hearts. She filled the lives around her with beautiful memories. Micki took special joy in teaching her loved ones to bake apple pies, weave baskets, sew and cook, among many other things. She shared her love of gardening, fishing and hunting with all her loved ones, especially her grandkids. It was an agreed upon fact that Micki was the “Perfect Granny”, and even played that important role to many that were not her biological grandkids. Her kind heart and love of dogs was seen when she went to pick out a puppy and had to bring the runt of the litter home too. Most will remember Micki every time they spot a ladybug. Micki was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Minnie Rather; and three sisters: Marian Grunwald, Dorothy Guenther and Ellen Friedman. Survivors include her beloved husband of 61 years, Ron Lockwood of Elsberry; three children: Bonnie Krone of Edwardsville, IL, Christy (Keith) Stark, of Prairietown, IL, and Trevor Lockwood of O’Fallon, MO; nine grandchildren: Scotty (Mara), Jenna, Elise and Austin Krone, Dylan (Sarah) and Kailey Stark, and Paige, Natalie and Andrea Lockwood; and one great-grandson, Philip Stark. Micki also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be made to the Elsberry First Christian Church or to the Elsberry Health Care Center in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
