Obituary of Linda Sue Hurley

Funeral Services for Linda Sue Hurley of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Elsberry First Christian Church. Rev. Kris Hagemeier, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Hurley, Brennan Hurley, Brandon Hurley, David Otte, Larry Smith, Mike Smith, Dennis Smith and Michael Bibbs. Mrs. Hurley, 82, passed away Tuesday morning, March 27, 2024, at SSM St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born July 2, 1941 in Hannibal, MO, she was the daughter of Herbert and Ida Rothfuss Smith. She was a 1959 graduate of Hannibal High School. Linda was united in marriage on June 8, 1963 in Hannibal, MO to Dale Lee Hurley. This union was blessed with four children: David, Tim, Melanie “Missy” and Brad. Linda worked as a secretary for McDonnell Douglas and Monsanto. She was a longtime member of the Elsberry First Christian Church where she was an elder for many years and former church secretary. Linda was an avid bowler and enjoyed Cardinals Baseball, Duke Basketball, and watching her grandchildren play sports. Linda enjoyed attending weekly Ladies Card Club with Beverly Robinson, Regina Pruitt, Judy Henry and Helen Martin. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for making cakes, including wedding cakes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ida Smith; three brothers: Ernie, Ronnie and Donnie Smith; one sister, Karen Smith, who died as an infant; her beloved husband of 59 years, Dale Hurley, who died on July 18, 2022; and one son, Brad Hurley, who died on January 13, 1990. Survivors include two sons: David Hurley and his wife, Julie, of Barnhart, MO and Tim Hurley and his wife, Kelly, of Elsberry; one daughter, Missy Hurley of Elsberry; seven grandchildren: Ryan Hurley and his wife, Molly, of Millstadt, IL, Brennen Hurley and his wife, Erika, of Wentzville, MO, Sidney Stevens of Arnold, MO, Brandon Hurley of St. Louis, MO, Taylor Hurley of Austin, TX, Baylee Bibbs and her husband, Michael, of Festus, MO and David Otte, of Elsberry; and six great-grandchildren: Hudson, Rawlings, Raegan, Weston, Gray and August. Linda also leaves three brothers: Larry Smith and his wife, Peggy, of Davenport, IA, Mike Smith and his wife, Rita, of Madison, WI and Dennis Smith and his wife, Lori, of Eldridge, IA; one sister, Diane Halley of Silvas, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Elsberry First Christian Church.
