Obituary of James Edward Calvin

Funeral Services for James Edward Calvin of Winona, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Bro. Eugene Abrams of Doniphan, MO, will officiate with burial in Corinth Cemetery near Foley, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Calvin, Dan Dyer, Jr., Rob Calvin, Brad Calvin, AJ Harding, Billy Harding, Jack Harding, Joe Rothweil, Alfred Harding, Sr., Hayden Gordon and John Gordon; and honorary pallbearers will be Ed Lucus and Russell Lucus. Mr. Calvin, 79, passed away Saturday morning, December 9, 2023 at the home of his daughter in Willow Springs, MO. Born December 13, 1943 in Muscatine, IA, he was the son of William Bryan and Mary Bell McGee Calvin. Jim was united in marriage on October 5, 1967 in the Chantilly Community near Winfield to Mary Velma Harding. This union was blessed with two daughters: Marion Annette and Sandra Lynn. Jim served his country in the United States Army, Army Reserves and National Guard from May 1, 1961 until his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant on September 9, 1983. Jim worked as a maintenance technician for Alvey Inc., retiring in January, 2006. He also served as a minister in Winona, MO until his retirement in September of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Bell Calvin; brother, Carmen Calvin; sister, Rose Heneck; his son-in-law, Jack Leon Harris; and his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Calvin, who died on December 28, 2016. Survivors two daughters: Annette Harris of St. Charles, MO and Sandra Tarter and her husband, Steven, of Willow Springs; and one grandchild. Jim also leaves one brother, Leonard Calvin and his wife, Betsy of Troy, MO and Jo Ann Lucus of Dover, DE; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
