Obituary of John Milton Dixon
Funeral Services for John Milton Dixon of Winfield, MO will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 at First Baptist Church Winfield in Winfield. Bro. Fielding Poe, church pastor, and Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church in Lake Ozark, MO will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Schlueter, Chris Maiuro, Joe Gallup, Turner Collier, Michael Ehrilich and Tom Dixon.
John, 85, passed away Friday morning, July 14, 2023 at his home. Born November 13, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of John Edwin and Opal Dixon. After his formal schooling, John attended classes for gas station ownership. John was united in marriage on August 16, 1958 in Winfield to Barbara Janice Sitton. This union was blessed with three children: John, Caroline and Michele. John owned and operated Dixon Standard Service in Winfield from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. He also drove a school bus for the Winfield R-IV School District for 19 years and Troy R-III School District for 7 years. Active in the Winfield community, John was a former Fireman and Chief of the Winfield Foley Fire Protection District and served as an Alderman for the City of Winfield. John enjoyed photography and took many wedding photos in Winfield and Troy areas. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Winfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Dixon; and one son-in-law, Mike Kight.
Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Barbara Dixon; their children: John Dixon and his wife, Theresa, of Winfield, Caroline Kight of Troy, MO and Michele Gallup and her husband, Keith, of Winfield; six grandchildren: Becky Collier of Winfield, Joe Gallup of Winfield, Emily Maiuro and her husband, Chris, of Clarksville, MO, Sarah Schlueter and her husband, Bobby, of Center, MO, Tom Dixon and his wife, Haley, of University City, MO and Lenzi Ehrlich and her husband, Michael of O’Fallon, MO; eight great-grandchildren: Turner and Taylee Collier, Jace and Lacey Gallup, Madelyn Maiuro, Lucy Dixon and Landon and Jackson Ehrlich. John also leaves many other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at First Baptist Church Winfield. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 3838 East Highway 47, P.O. Box 253, Winfield, MO 63389.
