Obituary of Marjorie Elizabeth Smith

Funeral Services for Marjorie Elizabeth Smith of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, Rev. Kris Hagemeier, pastor of the Elsberry First Christian Church, officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Wilson, Bryan Wilson, Michael Mayes, Joe Smith, Evan Wilson and Nolan Wilson. Marjorie, 91, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023, at the Elsberry Health Care Center. Born August 21, 1931 in Hannibal, MO, she was the daughter of Alfred Sterling and Madora Elizabeth Chandler Baker. Marjorie was a 1949 graduate of Hannibal High School. Following graduation she worked as a dental assistant until she started her family. Marjorie was united in marriage on December 13, 1953 in Hannibal to John Cornelius Smith, Jr. This union was blessed with three children: Greg, Kim and Lisa. Marjorie’s family was her world and she very happily committed herself to her home, family, husband, kids and grands. She was a member of the Elsberry First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Madora Baker; her sister, Phyllis Cawthon; grandson-in-law, Eric Heitman; and her beloved husband of 56 years, John Smith, Jr., who died on March 10, 2009. Survivors include her children: Greg Smith and his wife, Debbie, of Union, MO, Kim Wilson and her husband, Brent “Doc”, of Elsberry, and Lisa Mayes and her husband, Dick, also of Elsberry; six grandchildren: Blake Wilson and his wife, Julie, Bryan Wilson and his wife, Jennifer, Beth Johnson and her husband, Joel, Michael Mayes and his wife, Breana, Sarah Heitman, and Joe Smith and his wife, Megan; and twelve great-grandchildren: Evan, Nolan, Sabrina, Mackenzie, Lucas, James, Theo, Samuel, Cole, Cava, Kaiden and Clinton. Marjorie also leaves one brother, Darrell Baker and his wife, Ann, of Huntsville, AL; other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Service at 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library (or) the Elsberry First Christian Church in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
