Obituary of Robert S. Sharpe

Robert "Bob" Stephen Sharpe Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Stephen Sharpe of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Paul Garven, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Barney Morris, Tom Reed, Gene Markwardt, Bob Green, Larry Black and Ronnie Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ross, Max Rockwell, Bill DeGeare, Bob Turnbull, Marion Keim and Bob Austin. Mr. Sharpe, 79, died Sunday morning, May 6, 2007 at his home in Elsberry. Born June 4, 1927 in Foley, MO, he was the son of Roy and Della France Stonebraker Sharpe. Raised in the Foley area, he was a 1945 graduate of Winfield High School in Winfield, MO. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines. He was united in marriage on May 11, 1948 in Foley, MO to Dorothy Betty Collins. This union was blessed with one son, Steven Wayne. He worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church. Mr. Sharpe was also a member of the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry and the Retired Postal Carriers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Della Sharpe; and his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy Sharpe, who died August 22, 2001. Survivors include his son, Steven Sharpe and his wife, Tammy, of Elsberry; and two granddaughters: Cassie Henebry and her husband, Robert, of Hawk Point, MO, and Arla Jo Sharpe of Elsberry. He also leaves two brothers: Gregory Sharpe of Winfield, and Gary Sharpe and his wife, Beverly, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church.
