Obituary of Joyce Elaine Thomas

Funeral Services for Joyce Elaine Thomas of Winfield, MO will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at St. Paul United Church of Christ near Old Monroe, MO. Rev. Susan Shumway, interim church pastor, will officiate with burial in St. Paul UCC Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Thomas, Lauretta Thomas, Tara Kelly, Ricky Meier, Cory Hyde, Cody Hyde and Noah Thomas; and honorary pallbearers: Wyatt Walkenhorst and Arlee Fields. Ms. Thomas, 76, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 17, 2023 at her home in Winfield, Missouri. Born October 2, 1946 in Lincoln County, MO, she was the daughter of Alfred Herman “Hoppy” and Helen Lauretta Massie Meier. Joyce was a 1966 graduate of Winfield High School. Joyce was employed for 30+ years in food service at Winfield R-IV School District, retiring in 2016. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ near Old Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred “Hoppy” and Helen Meier; her brother-in-law, John Drown. Survivors include her children: Lauretta Thomas of Winfield, and Jeff Thomas and his wife, Mandy, of Moscow Mills; two grandchildren, Noah Thomas and Courtney Fields; and two great-grandchildren: Wyatt Walkenhorst and Arlee Fields. Joyce also leaves two sisters: Janet Drown of Winfield, and Linda Meier of Winfield; one brother, Ricky Meier of Winfield; one niece, Tara Kelly; great-nephews, Cory and Cody Hyde; several other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield; and from 12:00 noon until time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul UCC Church near Old Monroe.
