Mrs. Pieper, 89, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Mercy Lincoln Hospital in Troy. Born on May 8, 1934 in Old Monroe, she was the youngest of 13 children born to Herman J. and Rose Freise Gnade. Jane was united in marriage on October 3rd, 1953 in Old Monroe to Leonard Henry Pieper. This union was blessed with four children: Darrell, David, William (Bill), and Annette. Jane spent her life in the service of others. Her devotion to family was of the utmost importance to her, caring for her children, grandchildren, parents, siblings and extended family whenever they needed help.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Conception Ladies Sodality and was active with nursing home ministry well into her 80s. She was also a member of the choirs at both Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart. Jane was a long-time quilter and baker and enjoyed visiting with family and friends in person and on the phone. She loved to sing and play the piano for her kids and grandkids, and there were many happy Christmas Eves singing and playing carols at home. Jane worked as the housekeeper at the Immaculate Conception rectory for nearly 40 years, as well as cleaning several businesses around Troy and Old Monroe. She lived next door to her sister, Rose Mary with whom she had a special bond. Her family and her Catholic faith were most important to her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was happiest with her family around her.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Rose Gnade; five brothers and their spouses: Eugene and Laura Gnade, John and Lorraine Gnade, James and Laverne Gnade, Bill and Delores Gnade and Ben Gnade; three sisters and their spouse: Adele and Dick Anthony, Anna and Warren Hank, and Leona and Eugene Schneider; one daughter-in-law, Susie Pieper; two infant brothers: Frank and Richard; two sisters-in-law: Marita Gnade and Dorothy Gnade; one brother in-law, Everett Rottger, and her beloved husband of 68 years, Leonard Pieper who died January 25, 2022.
Survivors include her four children: Darrell Pieper, David Pieper and his wife, Marcella, Bill Pieper and his wife, Nancy, all of Troy, and Annette Niehoff and her husband, John, of Perry, MO; eight grandchildren: Chris Pieper and his wife Meghan of Wentzville, Andrew Pieper and Jamie Ohrt of Apple Valley, MN, Dylan Pieper of Troy and Kaity Carmichael of Flower Mound, TX, Dusty Pieper of Batavia, IL, Jennifer (Niehoff) Clark and her husband Justin of Lakewood, CO, Deanna Pieper and her fiancé Jace Dumont of Troy, MO, Jamie (Pieper) Folta and her husband Andy Folta of Hawk Point, and Jodi Niehoff of Perry, MO; and two great- grandchildren, Bennett and Eleanor Pieper.
