Obituary of William Leon Gunn

Funeral Services for William Leon Gunn of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Laura Taylor, pastor of the Elsberry United Methodist Church will officiate with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth “KJ” Grimmett, Jr., Bill Niffen, Charles Hunter, Matthew Hunter, James Webster, J.J. Irving, LeRoy Hunter, Allen Hunter and Roy William Gunn, Jr. Mr. Gunn, 73, passed away Sunday morning, April 9, 2023, at his home. Born January 10, 1950 in Foley, MO he was the son of George William and Lucille Marie Hubbard Gunn. Bill served his country in the United States Army from November 30, 1967 until his honorable discharge on December 12, 1974. He was united in marriage on June 10, 1975 in Clarksville to Helen Louise Colbert. This union was blessed with four children: Melissa, Regina Louise, Lisa Marie and Roy William. Bill worked as an apartment maintenance supervisor, carpenter and heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille Gunn; two daughters: Melissa Gunn as an infant and Lisa Marie Gunn; and one sister, Mary Parker. Survivors include his beloved wife, Helen Gunn of Elsberry; two children: Roy Gunn of Elsberry and Regina Gunn, also of Elsberry; one grandson, Roy William Gunn, Jr; and two step-grandchildren: Lexus Phipps and Jacob Phipps. Bill also leaves two sisters: Susie of Wentzville, MO and Wanda Mae of O’Fallon, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
