Obituary of George Kenneth Segress

Private Funeral Services for George Kenneth “Kenny” Segress of Elsberry, MO were held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Raymond Doussard, SSM Hospice Chaplain, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers were Joseph Irvin, Kenny Peska, Zachary Gordon, David Wurtz, Jesse Wurtz, Rodney Wurtz and Chris Thurston. Mr. Segress, 85, passed away Monday morning, February 13, 2023, at his home. Born July 13, 1937 in Elsberry, he was the son of Luther Edward and Alberta Allene Marie Fines Segress. After high school, Kenny worked for several years at Hercules in Louisiana, MO. He then served his country in the United States Army in Germany from October 20, 1960 until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1962. Following his military service, Kenny returned to work at Hercules. He was united in marriage on February 14, 1974 in Elsberry to Betty Isbelle Nulsen. Their home was blessed with six children: Irvin Children: Susan, Donald, Barbara, Christine (deceased), Jane and Ann Segress, who was born in 1975. Kenny later worked as a truck driver for Petrolane and also farmed. He was a member of the International Chemical Workers Union. Kenny loved his time skiing on the Mississippi River. Kenny was a former 4H Leader. He was a family man and loved spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Alberta Segress; and one daughter, Christine Mitchell. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Betty Segress of Elsberry; their children: Donald Irvin and his wife, Mary, of Mississippi, Ann Marie Segress-Peterson and her husband, Corey, of Elsberry, Susan Knisely and her husband, Leo, of Columbia, MO, Barbara Wurtz and her husband, Danny, of Foley, MO and Jane Ellen Thurston of Williamsburg, MO; fifteen grandchildren, including Joseph Michael Irvin who Kenny and Betty raised; twenty-three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
